Valuing Your Business

What is a reasoned range of value for my business?

A reasoned valuation serves many purposes. First, it provides you with a reasonable sense of what you might receive from a sale. Secondly, it sets a price that can be used to attract buyers. If that valuation is sound an interested and qualified buyer can raise the capital necessary to finance the transaction.

Buyers want to pay as little as possible and are generally focused on the value of your day to day business (the “enterprise value”).

Seldom do buyers want to buy cash or redundant assets that may have accumulated in the business. Often the price can be kept affordable by taking back the real estate in a business and renting it to the continuing business in a manner that serves the interests of both parties.

At the same time repositioning such assets in the vendors hands before the close of a sale can add to the total value unlocked by the sale of your business.

We have extensive experience in repositioning assets from an active business. Such reorganizations can be accomplished without immediate tax – further lending value to the transaction and your financial security.
